‘They say I am a poet, write for them:’
So begins one of the poems by Martin Carter featured in this recital to mark his date of birth.
Martin Carter wrote poems for over half a century. He took his craft very seriously. Stanley Greaves has spoken often of the economy of words that Martin believed in. Nothing in Martin’s poems was superfluous or accidental. So it seems apt to explore the craft of poetry, how to write a poem, by considering some of the poetic forms, styles and techniques that Martin adopted (and adapted).

This is the first of a series of recitals that will seek to illustrate the craft of poetry, using Martin’s poems as examples. The recital has been pre-recorded and will air on Moray House Trust’s YouTube Channel on Martin’s birthday, 7th June at 11.00 AM (Guyana) and be available at any point after that.

Warm thanks to our readers and Gemma Robinson, without whom this would not be possible.
