Philip Moore (1921-2012), a self-taught painter and sculptor, was one of Guyana’s most original and creative artists. He is remembered locally as the creator of the 1763 Monument. His work was held in high esteem beyond Guyana, sufficient to warrant a solo exhibition at the Studio Museum in Harlem in the 1970s and two stints as artist-in-residence at Livingston College and Princeton University in New Jersey.

THE PANEL
Alim Hosein is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Cultural Studies, University of Guyana. His presentation is titled Connecting Philip Moore.
Stanley Greaves is a Guyanese poet, sculptor, painter, educator, writer and classical guitarist. He will assert that Moore was a spiritualist who used art as his medium.
Dennis de Caires is a Guyanese-born artist who studied in London (at the Royal College of Art) and Paris (at Cite Internationale) and has worked since as an artist and educator. His talk is titled Psychic Energy Through Materiality.
