The East Demerara Water Conservancy is one of the major water conservancy systems in the country, located in Demerara – Mahaica.
It serves two purposes: flood control and water supply (irrigating about 17,900ha of farmland located around it and also supplying potable water in the area). It has an estimated catchment area of 582 sq km.
